The Story Behind The Song: It Is Well With My Soul...

Sure most of you know this story.
Used many of these stories when I was teaching senior high sunday school
to help my students to love the old songs.
Can't sing this song, never have been able to.
I'm an alto and I love the harmony to this song...
I'd LOVE to be able to sing it...just can't.
Tears...lots of them.
It is well...It's all gonna be okay

"It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect." Psalm 18:32

I actually just heard this story a couple weeks ago, they told it at church. I love the hymn and now I know the story behind it.

Hugs,
LeAnn:)

What a beautiful hymn! And beautiful story!

Many hymns move me to tears as well.

Oh, and guess what? I also sing alto! Can't do any higher notes. Wish I could.

Take care, dear Maree. I love your blog. You are so inspiring.

Hugs and blessings,

Renie

I love this song and I want my daughter to have it at my funeral. The words are great and the story behind it is so touching. When I'm gone I want to emphasize not to be sad that it is all fine with me. God is so good. I plan on being with Him forever.

I only heard this story in the last few years. Having not grown up in the church, I had never heard the hymn - AMAZING! How good is God's grace??

Sometimes when I do the bulletin I like to put on the back a story about one of the hymns we are singing - a bit of a background so people can understand more about who wrote the hymns and why. This is one that I put in the bulletin one Sunday. It makes a difference to know what inspired someone to write from their heart. So many hymns have come from people who lived in the 1700-1800's but are still so much alive today!! This was great.
