Our family Sugar Cookies & Gingerbread Men.....

This recipe is from the

Sesame Street Library Volume 1

Featuring the letters A and B

and the number 1

We bought them in the 70's I'm guessing.

Over the years I've made this recipe over 100 times...always doubled it.

This is from my homemade recipe book...it's full of wonderful recipes that have been a hit in the past. I need to go through them and lighten them up. But this recipe, I will never change. So many memories wrapped up in one little sugar cookie recipe!

Years ago I watched the Bob Braun TV Show. It was a variety show and they always had a cooking section with Beverly Nye. I saved many of her recipes....she was famous for her pie crust recipe..you HAD to use ice water. Beverly loved this Gingerbread man recipe because there was no molasses in them, making them softer for the little ones. Not only are they softer.....they are delicious! Guess I'm made 100's of these too. Always doubled the recipe. Beverly taught us to flour the board you are going to roll the cookies onto and then cover the dough with plastic wrap and then roll out.....makes it so easy to make these cookies.

I'm going to post Melissa's Buttermilk Chess Pie....
I'll just put it at 500 calories a slice! ;-) Who knows, who cares!!

These are some of our very favorite Christmas recipes....I wanted to share them with you!

Merry Christmas!!

Thank you for the recipe!!!! I had this set of books as a child and making the cookies (volume 2 shows how to turn them into butterfly shapes and paint them) with my mom is one of my favorite childhood memories. I went in search of these books this weekend -- I saved volumes 1 and 2 of the set for 25 years specifically for these cookies.
But, I couldn't find volume 1 and what good was the directions to shape and paint the cookies without the recipe. I was so excited to find the recipe here -- I made them with my kids today and they were as wonderful as I remember. Thank you so much!!!
God Bless!

I want to thank you for putting a copy of this recipe here. I have part of the book, but could not find the page with the recipe. I bought this book back sometime in the 70's and it has fallen apart we used it so much.

Thank you sooooo much! I have wondered and wondered about these cookies.....our home burned 11 years ago this month and I guess it was really on my mind. So I googled and found you. Now my Grandchildren can have some of the cookies just like their Dad's had. I almost cried when I found you and I am going to try the Gingerbread cookies also.

Love and Prayers

I have also been looking for this recipe, I bought a Sesame Street Baking Kit for my daughter for Christmas 20-26 or so years ago. It came with a rolling pin, cookie rolling sheet, cookies cutters, a bag of flour and I think a little bag of cinnamon, the recipe was on the rolling sheet and also a book. If I could buy it now, I would. She and I loved making cookies with it. We made them many times. If my memory serves me well, I pretty sure it called for cinnamon and they wonderful. Could you please email me your recipe of the page, it is hard to read over internet. Thank you

Thank you for posting this! These Sesame Street cookies are my husband's favorite, and for some reason I can't find the recipe that I copied down from my mother in law anywhere. And she is here, so can't access her own recipe box. You're a life saver! I tried to make a different recipe for sugar cookies and they just weren't the same for some reason.

Thank you so much for posting the cookie recipe! I was thinking how much fun it would be to make these old cookies with my kids for Christmas and thought maybe I had a long shot of finding it online. To see the original recipe page posted here after one or two google searches and clicks, I was smiling ear to ear!

Thank you so much. My page had fallen out of the book. I used it many years as is, but one day it slipped behind the oven. I forgot about it and left it there when we moved. I'm soooo glad to have the recipe back in the original form, now that I have children. You've made my day.

Inspired by your post I made my own about Cookie Monster's Special cookie recipe which I believe is the one Angelie above is looking for, it's the one with cinnamon. I thought I'd link it here for those who are searching for that special cookie recipe!
